Ambulatory Phlebectomy Treatment

In this procedure, the varicose veins are marked with a special vein light and then the surrounding tissue is numbed. Ambulatory phlebectomy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to treat varicose veins that are not caused by saphenous vein reflux. It is usually recommended to remove larger, bulging varicose veins. Treatment may be used in tandem with other forms of vein treatment or as a standalone procedure.

Varicose Vein Removal

The procedure is done under local anesthesia and typically takes under an hour. The veins that will be treated are marked by our vein doctors, and those areas are numbed with local anesthesia. Utilizing tiny nicks in the skin, the veins are permanently removed. The abnormal vein is removed through a tiny incision or incisions using a special set of tools. No stitches are needed. Your incisions will be dressed with bandages, and there is often minimal to no scarring.

Recovery After Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Recovery is rapid, and most patients do not need to interrupt regular activity after ambulatory phlebectomy. Most individuals are able to return to their daily routine soon after the procedure and there is little to no discomfort associated with this form of treatment.

After the procedure, you should wear compression stockings for about a week, or until your follow up appointment at the Vein Center of Brinton Lake. Once the varicose veins have been removed, blood will reroute through healthier veins. Patients typically see excellent cosmetic results and the treated veins should not reappear after ambulatory phlebectomy.
